Some bracelets have a tongue and box clasp, which should also include a safety gate for extra security: 





 

A bale is the piece of gold which attaches to the pendant and the chain goes through. 

It allows the pendant to move on the chain. It can come as one solid piece or as a split bale (“bunny ears”). 



 



 

– Studs: these may be worn with a post, butterfly, or friction backing, or a threaded post with a screw back for extra security (typical on diamond stud earrings). Alpha backs feature a spring for added security for valuable earrings.
